No, U.S. citizens do not need a visa to visit Mexico for tourism, business, or short-term visits of up to 180 days. Instead, you'll receive a Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM), also known as a tourist card, when you arrive by air or at a land border.
You must:
- Have a valid U.S. passport (valid for the duration of your stay, although 6 months is recommended)
- Keep your FMM with you during your trip and turn it in when you leave. Losing it can result in fines or delays.
If you're planning to work, study, or stay longer than 180 days, you’ll need to apply for a visa through a Mexican consulate. Always check entry requirements before you travel to avoid issues at the border.
